2007

Iceland : LESD was well represented in the 41st International Children's Games in Reykjavik, Iceland, by Zach Melvin, Andrew Malone, Lauren Choban, Maryn Bieganski, Dana Shaker, Erica Gliga and Alana Arnold.  Malone placed 6th in the 50 and 100 breast, Gliga placed 5th in the 50 fly, Gliga, Shaker, Bieganski and Arnold placed 7th in the 400 free and medley relays, and Arnold joined LESD swimmer Jen Aronoff as the only Cleveland athlete to win three medals in the Games, earning Bronze in the 100 fly, Silver in the 200 IM and Gold in the 50 fly.  [Alana's Gold medal is the only gold won by a Cleveland athlete in any of the Games.}

 

 

2006

 

Bangkok Thailand, International Children's Games: Zack Melvin, Nick Ranallo, Mike Gaudiani, Andrew Malone, Jasen Pinkerton, Courtney Tumbush, Dana Shaker, Maryn Beiganski, Alana Arnold, Brittany Rospierski, and Lauren Choban traveled around the world to Bangkok, Thailand, to compete with 2500 athletes in the 40th International Children's Games held in late August.  Despite particularly strong individual performances by swimmers from China, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Germany, Italy, and Mexico, Lake Erie swimmers placed well, with Zach Melvin earning 11th in the 50 fly; Mike Gaudiani 9th and 6th in the 200 IM and 400 free; Maryn Bieganski 6th in the 50 and 100 fly; Brittany Rospierski 5th in the 50 breast; and Alana Arnold 5th in the 100 fly.  Two swimmers earned medals: Rospierski received the Bronze in the 100 breast and Arnold the Silver in the 50 fly. All swimmers, coach Rick Stacy and parents returned safely, but with a strong aversion to rice.

The Lake Erie Silver Dolphins win the Short Course 2006 Team Championship by nearly 1200 points!

2005

December 2005: Emily Gaudiani is a Hasty Award winner for December.  

11-12 200 medley relay group  broke the LESI Event, LE Swimmer Record and Meet Record of 1:58.98 with a 1:56.98  (Top 16) at Short Course Champs.  The same four also achieved a Top time 16 in the 400 medley relay, Alex Giordano, Megan Splain, Alana Arnold, and Maryn Bieganski.

January 2005 QUAD MEET RE-CAP : Kevin Stang (10) sweeps all four of his events at Quads!  KJ took first in 100 free, 200 free, 200IM and the 100 back. His 100 back time of 1:06.69 was a new team record! Also earning first place finishes are Micah Simpson (10) 100 FLY and  Emily Gaudiani (9) 200IM.    Coach Rick is very proud!  Click logo above for complete meet results.

                                                           The Lake Erie and Ohio LSC’s combined to form the 2005 Ohio Quad team for competition with the best swimmers from Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.  Silver Dolphin swimmers made an excellent contribution to this team in virtually all age groups.  Both Kelsey Pinkerton and Emily Gaudiani scored in the 10 and under age group, with Kelsey placing 7th in the 200 IM (2:39.60) and Emily placing 1st in the IM (2:32.45).  Four 11-12 girls finished in the top eight: Lauren Choban placed 8th in the 100 back (1:07.24); Maryn Bieganski placed 8th in the 50 fly (29.20) and 5th in the 100 fly )1:03.36); Annie Holy (swimming in the Open age group) placed 6th in the 200 fly (2:22.33); and Alana Arnold placed 8th in the 200 IM (2:21.50), 7th in the 100 fly (1:04.04), and 2nd in the 50 fly (28.17).  Three 13-14 girls scored in the Open age group: Stacy Miozzi placed 8th in the 200 IM (2:20.34); Jordan Hawn placed 8th in the 200 breast (2:38.29) and 7th in the 100 breast (1:14.81); and Meghan Stang placed 6th in the 500 (5:27.22).

 On the male side, Micah Simpson placed 7th in the 10 and under 100 breast (1:26.78), 6th in the 50 breast (39.16) and 1st in the 50 free (28.27); Mike Gaudiani placed 5th in the 11-12 200 IM (2:18.31), 8th in the Open 200 breast (2:43.60), and 7th in the 200 fly (2:22.10); and KJ Stang–perhaps the star of the meet–placed 1st in all four of his 10 and under events: 100 free (1:00.04), 200 free (2:09.35), 100 back (1:06.69– a new LESD record and narrowly missing the Lake Erie record), and the 200 IM (2:22.79–a Meet Record!). Way to go Dolphins!

 Nineteen Lake Erie Silver Dolphins were selected to be part of the 2005 Ohio Quad Team competing in Indianapolis, Indiana. Congrats to: Alana Arnold, Elizabeth Aronoff, Brooke Bieganski, Maryn Bieganski, Lauren Choban, Emily Gaudiani, Mike Gaudiani, Jordan Hawn, Annie Holy, Stacey Miozzi, Meggie Pernsteiner, Kelsey Pinkerton, Micah Simpson,  Megan Splain, Kevin Stang, Meghan Stang, Courtney Tumbush and Mel Vasquez. 


2004

November 27, 2004: Coach Jack Bauerle, head swimming coach from the University of Georgia, will be speaking to coaches from 8:00AM-9:30AM on Saturday, November 27, at the Hawken Upper School pool on the Georgia sprint and IM programs. Later in the morning, assistant Georgia coach  Jerry Champer will offer two pool sessions for swimmers.  The first, from 10:00-12:00, will cover Georgia stroke, turn, and start drills and training progressions for the individual medley; the afternoon session, from 2:00-4:00 PM, will cover Georgia sprint, start and turn drills and training progressions. 


USA 2003 Swimming Scholastic All American Honorees announced: Alyssa Kiel places 6th and Margot Brooks places 23rd, joining teammates Beth Bacon and Christie Misterka in nationwide Scholastic All-America tabulations. Congratulations girls!


August 04 National Championships, Stanford University

Fiona O'Donnell-McCarthy, Sarah Dorenkott, Alyssa Kiel, Ellis Schieman, Margot Brooks, Michi Hahn-Lawson and Lauren Preyss arrived in California for some stiff competition.

Alyssa Kiel earns High Point Award at Nationals for placing in the top five in all of her events. LESD places 4th for women's teams.

 Alyssa Kiel wins her first National Title in the 800 free with a 8:33.08, and Margot Brooks swims a best time to take 6th place. 

 Alyssa continues to score points for the Dolphins with a third place finish in the 400IM and a 5th place in the 200 free. Both swims were personal best times. The LESD 400 free relay team of Schieman, Preyss, Dorenkott and O'Donnell-McCarthy, took 12th place with a 3:54.12.  Fiona takes 19th in the 100 back. In the 400 free, Margot goes 4:20.17 for a 18th  place finish,  Ellis takes 10th with a  4:17.31 and Alyssa places 2nd  going a 4:14.05. The 800 free relay of Schieman, Preyss, Brooks and Kiel places third.: Lauren Preyss takes 20th in the 50 free with a 26.60; Alyssa  swims to a second place finish in the 1500 free and Margot Brooks takes sixth.


LESD Sectional Team  competes in Bloomington, Indiana

The Sectional team included: Beth Bacon, Laura Clark, Erica Dorfman, Jeff Montague, Amanda Burwell, Christine Misterka, Julie Madden, Emily Mekesa, Maria Chan, Fiona-O'Donnell-McCarthy, Ilya Byzov, Hallie English, Ellis Schieman, Khaled Elgamal, Tim Montague, Bill Anderson, Matt Rothenberg, Ryan Holy and Sarah Dorenkott. 

Ellis Schieman earns high point award for women!

 Congrats to Ellis Schieman for winning the 800 freestyle in a 9:01.11, and the 200 free with a National cut of 2:04.37.

 Lauren Preyss wins the 100 free and makes her National cut with a 57.43.

Silver Dolphins  400 free relay of Schieman, O'Donnell-McCarthy, Dorenkott and Preyss break the sectional meet record with a National cut of 3:54.82. 

 Ellis Schieman continues her rampage at sectionals, winning the 400 free with a new National cut of 4:20.22. Fiona O'Donnell-McCarthy achieves  her first summer National cut in the 100 back with a  1:05.41. Dolphin women in 2nd place.  

 Lauren Preyss makes her second National cut in the 50 free winning the event with a 26.78.

Lauren Preyss, breaks 2 LESD records with her swims. The first in the 50 free was a 13 year old record from Sarah Dykstra. Lauren lowered the time from a 27.05 to  26.78. The second record is from Olympian, Melanie Valerio from 1998 for the 100 free. Lauren dropped the record from 57.47 to 57.43.        


The International Children's Games began on Friday, July 31st. Athletes from 52 countries are in Cleveland to compete in a variety of sports.   Silver Dolphin swimmers competing in this meet are: Ryan Pearl, Andrew Moragne, Chris Nemeth, Jimmy Ranallo, Courtney Tumbush, Jennifer Aronoff, Alana Arnold, and Louise Gliga.

  Finals recap: Jennifer Aronoff places third in the 200IM with a 2:29.85. She was the only Cleveland swimmer to medal in an event. She also placed 4th in the 50 breast with a 35.47 and 5th in the 100  breast with a 1:18.88.
 Courtney Tumbush takes sixth ( 4:45.32) and Louise Gliga takes seventh (4:49.10) in the 400 free at finals. Louise also placed seventh in the 100 fly going 1:08.77.

Ryan Pearl takes fifth in the 100 free going a 56.98  at finals and a fourth with a 26.19 in the 50 free.  Andrew  Moragne places seventh in the 50 fly at a 29.15 . Great job Dolphins.

Lauren Choban breaks 10 year old record: Lauren Choban (10) broke the LESD and Lake Erie  Swimming swimmer and event record in the 200 backstroke at the USC Invitational.  Her time was 2:42.23, eclipsing Shelly Klaus' old mark of 2:48.61 established in 1994!

Crane breaks more  records: Nicholas Crane breaks two more 10 and under long course records at the Busbey Meet. He broke his own 400 free record, dropping his time from 4:53.45 to 4:52.32. He also broke a  1975 record from Ted Esselstyn in the 50 fly dropping the time from 33.70 to 33.40.Nicholas Crane also breaks his own record in the 200 back at Freedlander with a 2:44.49.

2/2004: 8 & Under Champs: Event winners for this meet include: Gabriela Cerer, 6, 25 breastroke; Sarah Koudeki, 8, 25 fly and 25 free; Jon Vexler, 6, 25 breaststroke; Joey Cerer, 7, 25 breaststroke and Nikolai Levinsohn, 8, 25 breaststroke. The 8 & under 100 free relay of Levinsohn, George, J. Cerer and A. Quinn, also took first.

2/2004 Conoco Phillips National Championships: Diana Munz, Alyssa Kiel, Margot Brooks and Sarah Dorenkott competed in Spring Nationals in Orlando. Placing in the top eight, Alyssa takes 2nd in the 800 free, and 8th in the 400IM. Diana takes 4th in the 800 free, 2nd in the 1500 free, 6th in the 200 free, and 4th in the 400 free. Ask the girls about their "visit" to the Magic Kingdom and the ice cream adventure!  

01/2004:Mid-States Quadrangular Meet: Thirteen Dolphins travel with the Ohio Quad team to Indianapolis to compete. The number is down because many eligible swimmers will be participating in the Atlanta Invitational the weekend of January 16th. : Nicholas Crane sets a Boys 10 & Under meet record in the 200IM with a 2:25.08, and Kevin Stang touches at third, 2:30.68; Ryan Pearl takes second in the 100 free, 50.59; Logan Arnold takes fifth in the Girls 10 & under 50 fly, 31.83; Daniel Nemeth, 12, drops 22 seconds in the 1650 free,19:56.24; and Tim Montague, 14, drops 28 seconds in the 1650 free,  17:20.55, to take fourth place.  Nicholas Crane takes  first in the Boys 10 & under 200 free in a 2:09.18 and a second in the 100 breast at 1:21.96; Logan Arnold touches at third in the Girls 10 & under 100 fly with a 1:10.85; Ryan Pearl takes a close second in the Boys 13-14 50 free with a 23.34; and Tim Montague takes fourth in the boys 13-14 500 free with a 5:02.08. Great job Dolphins!!

Diana Munz makes the "A" team again and Alyssa Kiel qualifies as a "B" team member.

National Team Time Standards: Eighth-place world ranking in all Olympic events.

National "B" Team Time Standards: Sixteenth place world ranking in all Olympic events.

10/03:LESD earns the Club of Excellence Gold Level Award. The USA Swimming Excellence in Club Swimming Program is  a voluntary program that identifies and recognizes USA Swimming clubs for their commitment to excellence in operation, performance, and the    support and development of USA Swimming. Only 16 out of nearly 2800 qualified clubs in the United States earned gold level status. 

9/28/03   2002-2003 USA Swimming Scholastic All-America honorees announced.  Alyssa Kiel takes second  place  in the USA and Margot Brooks places sixteenth! 

2003 USA All-America Team announced.  The All-America Team is comprised of swimmers who equaled or bettered the faster of the eighth place times from either the Spring or Summer 2002 Conoco Phillips National Championships while competing in the Spring or Summer 2003 Conoco Phillips National Championships.
Diana makes the team in the 200,400 & 800 free and Alyssa makes it in the 400, 800, 1500 free,

Margot Brooks makes the 2003 Junior National Team.  The team will be competing at a meet Jan. 4-9, 2004 in Queensland, Australia.

8/14/03 Diana Munz, Alyssa Kiel, Pieter Pelser, Margot Brooks and Ellis Schieman competed at USA National Championships in College Park, Maryland. 800 free relay comes in 4th place.

7/28/03 Diana Munz takes a close second in the 800 free at World Championships shattering her previous best time by nearly 5 seconds and  takes 3rd place in the 400 . She was also part of the American record breaking 800 free relay team

7/28/03  LESD Women's team takes second at USA Sectional Meet in Bloomington, Indiana.  Margot Brooks gets her Olympic Trials cut in the 800 free and Alyssa Kiel adds the 400IM trials cut. 

7/16/03  Erica Rose finishes in 11th place at World Championships 10k race in Barcelona Spain.

 7/14/03  LESD Swimmer Erica Rose carries the US flag at opening ceremonies for the World Championships in Barcelona Spain.  Erica is competing in the Open Water 10K event.

6/10/03  Congrats to Erica Dorfman, 8th grade valedictorian at Hawken School. Erica joins the long list  that          includes Erica Rose, Anna Strohl, and Alyssa Kiel. What is in that Hawken water anyway?

3/24/03  LESD takes 2nd place overall at the USA Sectional Meet in Oxford and the Women take 1st!

           Senior Nationals Spring 2003, Indianapolis: The LESD Women's team places 3rd at Nationals. LESD National Swimmers Diana Munz, Alyssa Kiel. Margot Brooks, Lauren Preyss, Ellis Schieman, Sarah Dorenkott, and Eddis Singleton head to National Championships in Indy. Diana Munz wins the 800 free, takes 5th in the 400 free, 6th in the 200 free, and 11th in the 200 back. Alyssa takes 3rd in the 800 and 1500 free and 11th in the 400 free. The 800 free relay of Munz, Kiel, Preyss and Schieman take 8th place. The 400 free relay of Munz, Preyss, Dorenkott and Kiel place 17th. .

 The ASCA, American Swimming Coaches Association, has announced the 2002 recipients of awards. Jerry Holtrey receives An Award of Excellence and the Top 8 Award of Excellence.

December 2002: Diana Munz and Alyssa Kiel compete in the US Open in Minneapolis. Alyssa places 3rd in the 400 free, 8th in the 400IM and 2nd in the 800 free. Diana wins the 800 freestyle.

Diana and Alyssa make the USA 2002 All-America Team in the 400, 800 and 1500 free, and Diana also makes the 200 free.

Congrats to Jessica Rothenberg selected to 2002 Scholastic All America Team

Long Course National and World Rankings for 2002 just out. Dolphins make the list in a big way.  Diana Munz ranked, #1 in the world in 1500 free, #3 in 400 free, #4 in 800 free, and  #23 in 200 free. National rankings also published with Diana making a clean sweep in first place in the 400, 800 and 1500 free.

  Teammate, Alyssa Kiel world ranked #31 in 400 free, #30 in 800 free and #15 in 1500 free. Alyssa climbed up the ladder nationally with a  #9 in the 400 free, #8 in the 800 free and #7 in the 1500 free in the USA.

 LESD USA Sectional Team July 2002 wins in Bloomington, Indiana

National Team , August 2002:The LESD women's team placed fifth at Phillips 66 National Championships, held August 12-17 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Diana Munz won her nineteenth and twentieth national titles in the 400 and 800 meter freestyles and placed third in the 200 free. Alyssa Kiel placed second in the 1500, eighth in the 800 and seventh in the 400 free to lead individual scoring for the Dolphins. Alyssa achieved her 200 free national cut as the lead off in the 800 free relay and her 400IM national cut in a time trial as well. The 800 free relay team of Kiel, Lauren Preyss, Erica Rose, and Munz clipped five seconds off the old LE swimmer record with a time of 8:18.38, good for third place. Erica Rose, Alyssa Kiel and Lauren Preyss also swam the 5K Open Water event.  All successfully finished the ocean swim, some happier than others in having participated in this event.

07/02 Diana wins 800, 1500  and 400 at Pan Pacific Championships in Japan.

05/02:Erica Rose Wins Open Water Event in China.

 06/02: Alyssa Kiel, National Junior Team member, competes in the Mare Nostrum Meet in Rome Italy in her first international competition. She places second in the 800 free, fourth in the 400 free and swims in the consolation final heat of the 200 free.  Alyssa swam personal bests in all three events.
